Charles is the founder and Managing Partner of CRB AFRICA LEGAL. He is an experienced consultant in the fields of mining, corporate, banking and financial law and is held in high regard by clients and peers. Chambers Global Guide to the World’s Leading Lawyers describes market observers as “praising Charles Rwechungura’s ‘hands-on approach’ to an array of work, including mining, banking and finance activities.”

Charles regularly advises mining exploration and extraction companies on corporate and commercial issues such as joint venture agreements, transfers or assignments of mineral rights, applications for mining and prospecting licenses and has conducted multiple large-scale due diligence exercises for foreign investors looking to invest in the Tanzanian mining sector.

In addition, Charles acts for many of the national and foreign banks operating in Tanzania, advising them on the full range of financial and banking law issues. He has advised on over six equity IPOs and bonds listing at the Dar es salaam Stock Exchange and two cross listings of bond issues for the East African Development Bank (EADB) as well as the Eastern and Southern African Trade and Development Bank (PTA Bank). In recognition of his industry knowledge and legal expertise he is often appointed to act as arbitrator on complex commercial disputes.

Charles cut his teeth in project finance during the early 1980s while working for six years as an in-house corporate counsel in the National Textile Corporation (TEXCO), a large corporation that sourced funds from international financiers for the construction and management of over 16 textile manufacturing projects. He moved to work for another six years as Head Counsel at the Tanzania Investment Bank (TIB), a foreign funded project financier through long term secured lending. He ventured into private practice in 1993 as founder partner in the firm Maajar & Rwechungura Law Office that eventually merged with another law firm to become REX ATTORNEYS from where he retired to found CRB AFRICA LEGAL.

He has held professional leadership positions at local and international.

He is a past President of the Tanganyika Law Society, the Bar Association of Tanzania Mainland, and an ex official member of the Council of the International Bar Association (IBA) and the East African Law Society (EALS).
